One should choose Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as core subjects in 12th. Your son might not be eligible to pursue a Diploma in astronomy right after class 10th. To pursue a Diploma in astronomy, candidates are required to clear class 12th. How to become an Astronomer? To become an Astronomer, a Ph.D. degree is compulsory. First, you have to complete your 10+2 examination under the Science stream, especially in Mathematics and Physics. Probably No. With only a B.Sc Physics degree, you can't achieve such a prestigious career where Lakhs of aspirants are already in the queue.
To go with an astronaut career, you must have a pilot's license along with a 2-3 year (not sure) professional experience of jet aircraft pilot, and an engineering experience too. Moreover, you will pass through physical tests. Your vision capabilities will also be checked. And, I think there is a limit of heights too.

Hello Aman,
There are no fixed criteria for becoming an astronaut. An engineering graduate, pilots, a specialist in medicine, metallurgy, or any such related subject. For becoming an engineer, you need to have passed 10+2 with required marks and cleared entrance exam.

It is a good suggestion. You are also advised to obtain Flying licence to fulfill your dream. By the way in India , first two astronauts came from Indian Air Force fighter flying branch.
