A doctoral degree is the usual educational requirement to become an astronomer, since most of the work tends to be related to research and development.
Those who opt for this field, should pass their plus two examination under the science stream, specially in physics and math's. For pursuing a career in theoretical or observational astronomy one may go through the science stream after plus two. How to become an astronomer:
To become an astronomer, a Ph.D degree is compulsory.
First, you have to complete your 10+2 examination under the science stream, especially in mathematics and physics.
After that, you can join an undergraduate course in astronomy. You can join for an honors/major in physics with mathematics as a secondary subject.
Thereafter, you can join postgraduate degree in physics or astronomy.
After competing Masters degree, you can do specialization in astronomy leading to Ph.D.

No, for PhD in a particular subject you should have the PG in the same subject.

Eligibility criteria to study Master of science in astrophysics abroad:
Students should hold a B.Sc degree in astrophysics with not less than 50% marks to apply for an M.Sc degree in astrophysics abroad.
They should qualify for the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) in order to pursue a degree abroad.
They should score a minimum score in the International English Language Testing System:40; IELTS:41; as well.
Age limit will be different and will vary according to Universities. However, the students must be at least 20 years of age to apply for this degree in any of the Universities abroad.

Becoming an astrobiologist involves a lot of stages.
Aspirants should pursue the science stream at the 10+2 level. A combination of science and mathematics can be an added advantage.
The minimum educational requirement to become an Astrobiologist is a Bachelor's degree in any of the science subjects like space science, astronomy, chemistry, biology or other appropriate science subject from a recognized university. Candidates can also opt for subjects like biogeochemistry, microbiology, geological science, biotechnology, biochemistry, etc. Aspirants also have the option of pursuing a specialized course in astrobiology.

Eligibility criteria to appear for ISRO qualifying exam:
Candidate must have done graduation from the recognized university to be eligible for this course.
Candidate must have Master's degree from information science/science background with at least 60 % aggregate from the recognized university to be eligible for this course.
Candidate must not be more than 35 years of age to be eligible for this course. Candidates belonging to the reservation caste or from the Defence background are offered relaxation of two years in the upper age limit eligibility criterion.

There are 3 colleges in Bangalore which are the top colleges for astronomy and they are:
1) Indian Institute of Science (IISC)
2) Raman Research Institute
3) Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA)

Hello Prakruthi,
Yes. you can do M.Sc in Astrophysics after B.Sc in physics. The eligibility is graduation completed with science from a recognized university with a minimum aggregate score of 50%.
Some colleges or universities do conduct some entrance exams for admission.
