Yes it is required. In some universities you will be having maths for first 3 semesters and in some you will be having it only. For 2 years or so!
So it completely depends on which university you choose!
And coming to why maths I required here is the reason
1)To understand the process of sterilization you need to have basic knowledge of integration and differentiation.
2)In biotechnology one have to study about fermentator design & upscaling, bioprocesses, mass transfer, metabolic engineering, biochemistry, biophysics etc. So maths is required there!
3). For finding the estimation of dna, there is use of maths.

Both the courses are viable choices as a higher study option after B.Sc biotechnology. You should pursue a subject which you feel comfortable studying, and where your interests lie.
