If you want to join a course in biotechnology then you must have a science background. Some universities offer B.Sc biotechnology which one can join after class 12 with physics, chemistry and mathematics. Graduates in all sciences, engineering technology and medicine are eligible for the postgraduate (M.Sc.) course in biotechnology.

B.Tech Biotechnology is a 4 Years course, which deals with technological applications in Biology while B.Sc. Biotechnology is a 3-year course. Later, students can go for M.Sc. Course and then Research later. If you want to pursue Research Career like Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, etc. Then choose B.Sc/M.Sc Biotechnology. Then Ph.D. if interested.

However, most students tend to go abroad to pursue their Masters or doctorate studies in Biotechnology and allied fields. B.Sc. Biotechnology has so many job opportunities, but if you have PG in these field M.Sc. Biotechnology, you can have more scope than B.Sc. Biotech. In both salary and your position. If you specialisation in same field, you can have more scope. All the best.

It is a good decision. But regular degree will have more value than distance education. While coming to salary also, it differs. If you are interested to do job and also study regular course at same time, you can manage your time in both of them like 4 days job and 2 days college ( if you take these choice, it will be highly risk one). You can do 2 years job and later, you can take a break in your job and do M.Sc. Biotechnology. And after your M.Sc. You can have lot of job opportunities. It's up to you which choice to select. Your life is in your hands.
All the best.
