In India, currently there is more importance given to biotechnology and there are so many vacancy for this too. I would suggest you to go for biotechnology. It is a blend of emerging technology with used for biological systems. It is easier to go into Forensic Science or Marine Biology or Environmental sciences or Pharmaceutical Studies with Bachelors in Biotechnology.
For salary, it depends upon the field you have specialised in. If you decide to join industry then biotechnology is more fruitful than microbiology.

Hi,
For admission to the course, eligible candidates are needed to qualify a relevant entrance examination, conducted at any of institute, state and national levels. Two subsequent rounds of group discussion and personal interview subsequently follow for assessment of candidate's general aptitude for the course. Otherwise, the eligibility criteria varies from college to college. For further information, do visit this link:

In civil services, you will have to take subject papers for IFS botany, zoology and biotechnology subjects are eligible. So, it does not matter in that case, in fact if are preparing side by side it will boost your preparation as subjectivity matters.
