Hello Afifa, When one talks of lateral admission in an engineering college, one assumes eligibility of Diploma holders or Science graduates in some of the states. For those students who have completed 12th, it's always admission in first year of four years engineering course. Hence you will not be eligible for lateral admission directly into second year of engineering but will be eligible for seeking admission in an engineering college in first year after following due process. The branch changing not only depends on grades. You need to be in the top 20% of your batch. Also, upgradation of branch happens, if the seats are available in that branch (in which you want to go). As far as I have known, upgrading your branch from BioTech to Mechanical is difficult.
