It's really good to know your dream of becoming an engineer from IIT. Nothing to worry. Diploma holders are considered as equivalent to 12th. I hope you have scored 75% here, as it's minimum required. Now you appear for JEE Mains and then JEE Advanced. Score good marks and admission is yours.

You must take SAT or ACT to be considered for admissions in any of the universities in the USA for Bachelor's degrees. Georgia Institute of Technology is also highly competitive and next to MIT in terms of selection of students and world reputation. Hence, very high academic grades in class 12th, extra-curricular activities like high-end projects, sports, volunteer work, etc., will be required. You can go through the university website and check student profiles and prepare accordingly. It is also necessary that you actually check the website for specific information.

Eligibility for lateral entry into mechanical engineering will depend on what was your branch for Diploma. Of course, you can get a particular college if you have scored very good marks.
