To be eligible for admission to Banaras Hindu University (BHU), candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) for general category candidates. For OBC candidates, there is a relaxation of 5% marks, i.e. they need a minimum of 45% marks. SC/ST candidates require a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate.

The university was placed 37 in the Asian University Rankings- Southern Asia category, 601+ in the QS Sustainability Ranking, and 501-550 in the QS WUR Ranking by subject for 2023. The eligibility criteria specify the minimal requirements that applicants to the MBBS programme must meet in order to be admitted. Therefore, in order to be eligible, a candidate needs to have passed English and Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) in a recognised board or university at the Class 12 level or above. A minimum of 50% aggregate (PCBE) for the General Category, 40% for OBC (non-creamy layer), SC, and ST, and 45% for PC in the General Category should also have been achieved by the candidate in the exam.

M.A. in Education at BHU is a 2 years course offered at the PG level. To get admitted to M.A. in Education course at BHU, applicants must meet the entry requirements - 50.0% in graduation. A candidate who has done Post Graduation (following Graduation under 10+2+3 pattern) in any Language-Literature, Philosophy, Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Science, Forensic Science securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate are eligible for admission in this course.

Any caste, region, religion students can apply for admission to various courses at BHU. Any caste student must fulfill the eligibility criteria and take admission. While selection process, students are not judged basis their religion, they are judged based on their merit. Hence, any student meeting the eligibility criteria can get admission in BHU. BHU does not descriminate people on any basis.

No, certain courses at BHU like MBA nad Btech, are not open to direct admission. To get admitted to a variety of courses, students must pass the entrance exams. The CAT, BHU-PET, CUET-UG, CUET-PG, and other entrance tests are approved.
