For admission to BA (hons.)/ BA/ BSc/ BCom/ BSc Management/ B.Ed./ LL.B, candidates are selected on the basis of merit scores.B.Tech Admission are done on the basis of merit score and entrance exams. Candidates must have cleared the JEE Main.For MBBS, candidates are chosen based on their merit score or marks in the NEET UG entrance exam.BDS/ BBA/ BSc Nursing Admission are done based on merit or through an entrance exam.For MA / M.Com (Hons)/ MSc / M.S, candidates are selected based on merit scores.For MD, candidates are chosen based on merit and interviews conducted by the University.For PhD Admission, candidates should have cleared the PET or the entrance exam conducted by the University.

The University has 10 Constituent colleges, 18 Affiliated colleges, 25 B.Ed. colleges, 02 Engineering colleges, 02 Law colleges and 01 Medical College spread in Dhanbad and Bokaro districts of Jharkhand, with its headquarter at Dhanbad. The University offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses with 21 Postgraduate Departments, which includes the Department of Management, Education, Mass Communication, Alt & Culture, Law, Foreign Languages, Life Science, Computer Science, and Environmental Science & disaster Management. As per AISHE Survey 2017-18, there are 51603 students (Boys: 24018, Girls: 27585) enrolled in 10 Constituent colleges of the University.
