Genetic engineering refers to the direct manipulation of DNA to alter an organisms characteristics (phenotype) in a particular way. It may also mean extracting DNA from another organisms genome and combining it with the DNA of that individual. So, if you have a strong command on biology you would be easily able to do it. You have to decide it yourself. Know what you like. Higher studies in Biology, Pharma, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Bioengineering, etc. Can be. You mentioned that due to competition you have opted non- medical course but, if you are confident enough about you studies also, if you have all your doubts cleared then you should try for MBBS. There is no need of getting scared.
Yes, apart from MBBS you can prove your mettle in other fields. Remember, there are many fields apart from MBBS also. MBBS courses are available in Germany, Philippines, Indonesia, etc. If you are economically good enough then you can go for it.
