Biotechnology is just the study of biological phenomena connected with technology and how this technology can boost the biological yield. As in case of plants we use biotechnology to make hybrid plants which give different flavors and tastes. Gene editing is the best example for present condition. Gene editing in plants as well as in human provide us with several options to produce pest resistant or disease resistant breed. So I think these examples are enough to make you understand the doubt you raised.
