BMS College of Engineering eligibility criteria varies according to different programmes offered by the institute at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.Candidates who have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination with English as one of the languages and have obtained at least 45% aggregate (40% aggregate for SC, ST and Category-I candidates) in Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry/ Bio-Technology/ Biology/ Electronics or Computer Science as optional subjects can apply for admission to the BE programme offered at BMS College of Engineering.Candidates who want to take admission in the BE programme through management quota must have passed Class 12 examination with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/ CS/ Electronics with a minimum 60% aggregate. Candidates who have passed Diploma or equivalent examination with a minimum 45% aggregate (40% marks in case of SC, ST and backward classes candidates from Karnataka) are eligible to apply for BMS College BE admission through lateral entry.Candidate who have a BE/ BTech degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum 50% aggregate (45% marks in case of SC, ST and Category-I candidates from Karnataka) are eligible to apply for admission to the M.Tech programme. BMS College eligibility criteria for MBA programme is a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 50% aggregate (45% marks for SC, ST and Category-I candidates from Karnataka) taken together in all the subjects including language subject.Candidate who have passed the Bachelor’s degree examination with Mathematics/ Statistics/ CS/ Computer Application/ Computer Programming/ Business Mathematics or Business Statistics as one of the optional subjects with a minimum 50% aggregate (45% aggregate for SC, ST and Category-I candidates from Karnataka) can apply for BMS College of Engineering MCA admission.

The Department of Computer Applications was established in 1984, initially with an intake of 30 students and the department admits 60 students every year at present.
Eligibility- 50% in graduation. Candidate must have completed graduation from any recognized University.
Candidate from Category-I of Karnataka who has attained 45% marks in graduation is also eligible to apply.
Admissions- Admission is through counselling based on the marks obtained in Karnataka PGCET conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

The department has an advanced computer lab equipped with networked high-end ACER (58) and HP (31) machines, to provide state-of-the-art computing facilities to the students and staff. In addition to the main library of the college, the department had the full-fledged library with 16,000 books and reference materials. The department also provides live projects and guidance to the students through ICL (Innovative Cluster Lab) which is a part of MOU between BMSCE and Altimetrik, thus helping the students in their campus recruitment.
