Learning one makes it much simpler to learn the other; this is because C+ and Java share a lot of syntax with one another and are both based on C. From what we can SEE they have no plans to reduce their footprint any time soon. There's nothing now available that can replace them (Java attempted to displace C+, but it could only carve out a small sliver of the market). In comparison to Java, I find C+ to be more sophisticated and robust.
