Yep, it's a very good idea to choose commerce with math as (optional) subj, it will very helpful to your son in further classes. Its advantages are in some exams like NDA CAT CA & CS and many competitive exams. I know it's become very hectic to students those who take commerce with Maths but in the same way, as I say it's scope is too big and very helpful. I'm saying this because I'm sharing my own experience. I also had Maths as optional in the 11th commerce field.
