A period of 4-6 months should be sufficient for CAT. Over this time one needs to put in 3-4 hours of daily sincere effort. Self-study and joining of classes for preparation with a lot of doing of mock tests will help you to excel in CAT.

In my view, its better to attempt a maximum number of questions. Constraining yourself to a number of questions might not be a good idea. Sometimes the paper is easy and people attempt a number of questions. Also, CAT result is relative, so a fixed number of attempt will reduce your chances to score high. So, better try to attempt all the questions in which you are confident.

Yes, but you need to work hard. Cracking CAT is dependent on a host of parameters- hard work, conceptual clarity, time management and above all, luck. But the most crucial traits that one must possess in order to prepare effectively for CAT are discipline, consistency and a never say die spirit. Cracking CAT is not about the three hours in the examination hall answering questions, but months of rigorous practice, sleepless nights and an indomitable spirit to fight it till the end. It is a test of ones endurance, intellect and temperament. If you are able to maintain your composure throughout the journey, you will eventually be able to

Dear Bindia,
I would advise you to take a mock test before start preparing for CAT. This mock test helps you to determine the level at you are from where you need to start learning. However, the best time to start preparing for the CAT-GMAT is after the 3rd semester (provided how much time did you need). Being a physics student, the quantitative section could be easier for you. So put more stress on qualitative section also.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Yes, you can join a private college, if you are going for B.Com/BBA than you will get fairly good amount of time for CAT preparation. If you are pursuing Engineering than attendance matters and you will get only 6-7 hours for preparation.
