CAT exam is conducted, generally, in the last week of November or first Sunday of December. For IIMs and top B-Schools, you need to start studying at least 8 months before the exam date. Best of luck for your preparations. For more details on CAT and other competitive exams, feel free to ask me anything.

Don't worry I can help you. Cracking CAT without a coaching is bit difficult task. I would suggest you- dedicated work is more important. If you are planning for your own studies, try to study approximately 6 hours a day.Try to solve questions based on the syllabus. Read Hindu newspaper editorials. Also, try to seek guidance from someone who has cracked CAT before. Also, there are a lot of mock tests available on the internet. Try to attend after your preparation. Always be focused and dedicated. Do your best.

Dear Trushita,
Yes you can do but it is not suggested.
Case 1 - If you are doing your B.Com from a regular mode then it is advisable that don't go for CA. Doing this, you can create excessive pressure on yourself. Neither you can do CA nor B.Com. For CA, you need to clear CPT test after that IPCC (1-2) internships, final which requires a lit amount of time and dedication. So, CA and B.Com simultaneously is not advisable.
Case 2 - If you are pursuing B.Com from correspondence mode, then you can surely opt for CA. Provided you have to divide your time accordingly.
Hope this helps.

1. Understand the syllabus
This is a useful tip for almost any exam. Understand the syllabus by going through past years papers and official guidelines. CAT can be segmented into four broad parts-
Quantitative Ability
Data Interpretation
Logical Reasoning
Verbal Ability
The concepts used in this examination are broadly of class 10 level. However, the questions are a little bit tricky to solve and require a good amount of logical thinking. But it can be developed by practice.
2. Books and material
3. Reading, reading & reading
4. Test Series
5. News coverage for post-CAT preparation

Prepare the basics of maths of 9/10 the class. Take any good CAT preparation book like Arun Sharma, start practicing the problems. If you find it very difficult to solve than go for coaching. If its manageable than join a good test series. Keep practicing problems for ball the 3 sections- Quant/Verbal/DI-LR.

As per as CAT is concerned it depends on how you complete your portion and alot time for solving mocks. Ideally, you need to finish your portion by end October or start November. Thus, joining class by May/June is recommended.
