It totally depends on your nature. If you are one of a kind who has the ability or can built it in himself to focus without any help then definitely joining classes is not required, but if you do not have this in you then someone is required to boost you up.
If you want to study alone then collect the question papers first and then analyse them and also collect the solutions. Make a proper plan and give proper time to each subject. Also, do not lose the focus during your preparation. You can build your strengths as you go on. The three sections in CAT are, reading comprehension, logical reasoning and data interpretation and quantitative ability.

The most common way to prepare for CAT is by joining an institute such as TIME or Tathagat. Depending on the region you stay in, you can find out the most renowned institute in your locality and choose. Also, there are multiple books that are available. You can also sign up for online courses to practice on your own

To improve your vocabulary the best way is to read as many books as you can. Mark the words and look for the simplest meaning in dictionary and coordinate accordingly.
