Hello Sk, It's good that you've made your choice and are dedicating yourself towards it. Actually many people take career breaks while preparing for CAT exam and even the interviewers understand that, given you are able to correctly justify your career break. The interviews may ask you the reason and you can simply state the reason, of course in not such a simple manner but in a better structured and confident way. But be ready with a backup plan no one has seen the future. Hope this helps and if you have any further query you can ask in comments. ALL THE BEST. ;). .

The exam is a real test of how you will manage your time and efforts to give your best at the deadline. As a CAT aspirant, one must focus on self-improvement; else you will either get stuck with speed issues or get distracted by accuracy. To be successful, you will need to maintain a balance between speed and accuracy. For this, you need to practice as many CAT previous year's questions as you can. Keep track of progress in your weak areas and make a proper schedule to improve. Also,

Yes, the CAT exam has negative marking for wrong answers. However, the marks are deducted only for the wrong MCQ-based answer and not for non-MCQ-based answers. The latest marking scheme for the CAT exam is as follows:
1. The total number of questions is 76, and the time allotted is 120 minutes.
2. Total Scores: 228
3. The number of questions per section: VARC-26, DILR-24 and QA-26
4. Three marks are given for every correct answer.
5. Around 1/3, I. e. , 1 mark is deducted for every wrong MCQ answer. No mark is deducted for wrong non-MCQ-based answers.

Yes, you are allowed to use a calculator in the CAT exam. However, you can not carry your physical calculators. Instead, there will be an online on-screen calculator provided by them. You are allowed to use it. This on-screen calculator only has some of the basic functions, such as division and a square root button. As a result, according to top scorers, you can't rely on that calculator much. You should practice solving questions with short cuts. Also, to develop speed in calculations, you should practice lots of sectional and full-length mock tests.
