It is not compulsory. You can get admission directly. For that, you have to book your slot earlier so that you can get admission during the time of counselling.

B.Sc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration is generally offered by Central government. IHMs and other institutes affiliated to NCHMCT and is of 3 years duration, while
BHM is mostly offered by private institutes affiliated to state universities and is of 4 years duration. Apart from this, there is no such major difference as both the degrees are equally recognised by industry and for other purposes.

I feel B.Sc in hospitality and hotel administration is better than catering.

Basic eligibility to pursue B.Sc in Hotel Management and Tourism from Mumbai College of Hotel Management and Catering Technology is that candidate should have passed 10+2 from a recognized board. Interested candidates can apply directly to the college.
