It is not compulsory. You can get admission directly. For that, you have to book your slot earlier so that you can get admission during the time of counselling.

B.Sc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration is generally offered by Central government. IHMs and other institutes affiliated to NCHMCT and is of 3 years duration, while
BHM is mostly offered by private institutes affiliated to state universities and is of 4 years duration. Apart from this, there is no such major difference as both the degrees are equally recognised by industry and for other purposes.
