A PCC is also known as the certificate of good standing that proves if an individual has prior convictions. It is basically an official document that is used to verify your current criminal status. A Police Clearance Certificate serves to prove that the applicant is of sound character.

Once you apply to become a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen, you and your family members should include a police certificate. However, when you apply as a visitor, temporary worker, or student, then the Government of Canada may require a certificate. You may apply for a Police Clearance Certificate at your local police station, passport office, embassy or consulate, or BLS International Centre.

To get a PCC, register through the Passport Seva online portal. Once the registration is done, login and click on the link to apply for PCC. Then, enter the required details and submit the same. Next, do the online payment and schedule an appointment. Take a printout of the application receipt and visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) / Regional Passport Office (RPO) with the original documents. You must visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the submission of the form.

In case the applicant has been able to clear all his/her backlogs, then he/she may not be required to submit a backlog certificate. Applicants who still have backlogs will be required to submit the certificate.
