Along with the NCERT books, the candidates are advised to refer to extra study materials to excel in the MET Chemistry section. Some of the important books that the candidates can refer to for preparation are - Inorganic Chemistry by OP Tandon, Organic Chemistry by OP Tandon, Numerical Chemistry by P Bahadur and A Modern Approach to Chemical Calculations by RC Mukherjee. By referring to extra materials, the candidates will have higher chances of understanding the important topics in depth for the examination.

The institute does not prescribe any set pattern for the TIFR GS exam for Physics and Chemistry courses. However, the official website informs that the papers for both the subjects will contain multiple-choice questions that candidates need to complete in three hours duration. For the MET Chemistry section, the list of units and topics to be studied is released through the official MET syllabus. Candidates will have to study the units of Periodic Properties, Haloalkanes, Coordination Compounds, Chemical Bonding-2, Solid State, Electrochemistry, Organic Chemistry Isomerism -2, Carbohydrates, Stoichiometry, Haloalkanes, Oils and Fats, Amino Acids and Proteins, etc. All of the units and topics need to be studied carefully so that the candidates are able to perform well in the entrance examination.
