The Union Public Service Commission UPSC Civil Services Exam Syllabus is divided into three categories, namely Preliminary, Mains and Interview. The Preliminary syllabus is mainly designed to assess a candidate's comprehension of current affairs and aptitude within the stipulated time. The preliminary paper is a compulsory and qualifying paper. The Mains syllabus is basically designed to judge a candidate's academic expertise in his/her specialised subject. You can pursue graduation in any discipline in order to appear for an IAS exam. There is no specification or restriction on the stream opted in your under graduation. The eligibility criteria only requires you to be a graduate from a recognised University.

You are left with one year time. So, keep regular study of newspaper, magazine and general knowledge book. And, you can follow various YouTube channels for good content on Preliminary and Mains paper which is really helpful.

If you wants to do Bachelor in Arts BA or B.Com (Bachelor's in commerce). In their stream, you may choose history, geography, political science, economics or accountancy as a subject for optional subject which helps you to crack this exam more easily.

If you really want to become IPS, then it is quite better to choose commerce or arts stream in which you learn about economics or history geography which is really helpful in cracking the exam.

If your optional subject is English, then it may be helpful but if not but your preferred language of writing is English, then it is not so much important as in Mains paper, you have to write answer in simple and easy words so don't worry much of your optional is not English.
