Every subject has its own importance. UPSC will test your knowledge on all topics. So, I can't say that law is beneficial or history is beneficial.

Yes, because you will have only limited attempts to appear for the exam and if you don't fare well in UPSC then you have various other options like SSC-CGL, PSC, bank exams which are far easy when compared to UPSC.

Hi,
You can't opt for any course in UG level. Your subject in UG level doesn't affect your IAS exam. After attaining 21 years of age you need to appear for UPSC, based on which you will be allotted IAS or IPS.
All the best.

Civil engineering is an optional subject for civil services examination, but you must think about other job prospects as well. Your engineering branch may be immaterial, since you have choice of subjects and if you are determined and confident. You need hard work, dedication and preparations.
You will get assistance from institutes such as:
1. Elite academy.
2. Brilliant tutorials.
3. Rau's IAS, etc.
Besides, you can read national dailies and current event magazines to update your GK. The coaching manuals are available at leading book stalls.

It is not a good choice as many students are waiting for jobs every year. Hence, it may be better if you continue your studies without any gap.
