To become an IAS officer you have to appear in Civil Service Exam.
The Civil Service Examination is organized by UPSC every year to recruit candidate for IAS, IPS etc.
You can choose any subject as per your interest.
Subjects like Public Administration and History can be chosen.
Along with this, you need to have a command on General Knowledge and latest current affairs.

Academic Qualification:
The candidate must hold a bachelor's degree in any field from a well known college or university.
Candidates who have appeared at an examination the passing of which would render them educationally qualified for the Commission's examination but have not been informed of the results as also the candidates who intend to appear at such a qualifying examination will also be eligible for admission to the Preliminary Examination.

Selection Process
The Civil Services Exam is a paper based test and consists of two successive stages:
(i) CSAT (Objective type) comprising 2 exams : General Studies
(ii) Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview)
CSAT-Prelim:
-Paper 1 is on General Studies
This includes areas like
Indian National Movement, Indian Polity, Basic Economic Understanding, Geography
While the dynamic part includes current affairs, GK and has no proper definition and syllabus
