If you have completed your 12th, you must have known by now which subject interests you more, you can choose accordingly. There is no specific subject required to take your IAS however History, Geography, Sociology , Political Science and Economics are among the most covered topics with political Science and Economics being the most common amongst IAS test takers. Also Economics is good since it gives both quants and theory aspects. To clear IAS in the first attempt you need to prepare rigorously and start the preparation 9 - 12 months before the exam date.
