Hi,
If we talk about PCM you can apply for the different tests like IIT-JEE CET of different states, there are some top private universities which conduct own tests like Amity University, SRM University, Lovely Professional University, etc. The Private universities have an edge over others as it will help the in the proper grooming in all the technical and non technical skills.

It's not that simple unless you are looking for a private college. For government colleges, it solely depends on your marks from engineering exams like KEAM for Kerala, JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. In private colleges, you can actually get direct admission.

Of course, he can opt for B.Com with a little more efforts towards subjects like accounts. There is no such bar that science students can't opt for commerce after 12th. As he was having mathematics, he can move ahead in commerce stream too.

For getting admission in the USA, you will need:
1) SAT and TOEFL exam scores
2) High school transcript
3) Teacher's recommendation
4) Counsellor recommendation
