No domicile certificate is required to be produced while filling up the application form for CLAT. It is mandatory only while counseling if you are opting for the domicile based reservations by producing certificates. It is normal for most NLUs to reserve 10%-50% of the number of seats for the state domicile students based on the law set by the respective universities. For instance, NLU Lucknow has reserved 50% of their seats for students in Uttar Pradesh alone. As long as it is done in accordance with the requirements of the NLU, the domicile certificate must be issued by the relevant state authority. Any client who fails to present the certificate during counseling will lose the benefit of domicile quota.
