I cannot tell you the exact rank cutoff as it varies on a lot of parameters and they change every year. I can tell you that a Tamil Nadu candidate has a good chance of getting a course at Coimbatore campus, if he or she has an AEEE AIR

Computer science at Amrita is one of the best branches in terms of placement and research. Most of the faculties are PhD's from universities abroad and provide excellent career guidance and are confident of what they teach. I cannot compare two universities without studying in both. So I can't say what VIT is like. This year 2015-2016, the highest paid job on campus was bagged by a CSE student. The package of the same being 20.3 lacs p.a. I suppose that answers your question.
