Admission is not possible directly in University B.D.T College of Engineering; instead, admissions are substantially done through the CET conducted by the Government of Karnataka. Candidates must have 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with an aggregate mark of minimum 45% - 40% for the reserved categories. Admission is purely on the basis of merit under the CET and government rules and reservation policies. Also, lateral entry options available for Diploma holders. Therefore, for a seat in the engineering courses of the college, the aspiring students are required to appear for the CET.

B.D.T College of Engineering does not offer a 100% scholarship, but it has provided various scholarship options. Scholarships primarily apply to those students who come from backward classes, SC/ST, and OBC through such schemes of the state government, such as SSP, under which nearly all the tuition fees are paid. Scholarships can also be offered to those securing higher grades based on merit. Whereas the college encourages access to these scholarships, availability and amount depend upon the eligibility and the policies of the state, thereby assuring help mainly to groups of economically weaker sections.
