First of all, you have to get a study permit for studying in a Canadian university.  A study permit is required to validate your stay.  You'll either get a visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) besides the study permit, which will allow you to enter the country.  It's important to remain enrolled and make reasonable progress toward completing your course while on a study permit.
