GNLU divides the intake largely on the basis of the rank acquired by candidates in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The higher rank obtained in CLAT ensures a seat to the LLB course, and the final allotment depends on the availability of seats and the preference exercised at the time of CLAT counselling. It is essential to get high marks in the CLAT exam to increase the prospect of getting a seat at GNLU to pursue the LLB course.

Gaining admission to the LLB course at Gujarat National Law University is not very easy due to merit positions. The university is fairly accomplished in its academics and placement records, and every year it attracts a considerable number of applicants. There are only 204 seats available in the LLB course; hence, students have to prove their academic excellence based on the accepted entrance exam. In addition to this, they must prepare themselves well in advance and prove their capabilities at the time of admission.

Admission into the LLB course at GNLU is based on CLAT scores. The students are expected to have passed Class 12 or any equivalent examination from a recognised board and secured at least an aggregate of 45% for general category students, whereas, for applicants in the reserved category, it must have been at least 40%. Candidates have to present mark sheets of Class 10 and 12 while submitting applications for admission. This ensures that all candidates have the necessary academic background.
