The University has nine schools, namely School of Engineering & Technology, School of Education, School of Languages, School of Social Sciences and more. The Central University of Kashmir has received 'B+' accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also approved the university.It belongs to the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as well.

The 2023 placement report is yet to be released. According to the NIRF report 2023, out of 575 B.Tech students who graduated in 2022, 468 were placed during NIT Srinagar placements 2022. On the other hand, out of 181 M.Tech graduates, 55 were placed. In 2021, 343 B.Tech and 34 M.Tech students were placed.

NIT Srinagar admission for B.Tech and M.Tech programmes is done basis JEE Main and GATE scores, respectively. Other than the B.Tech and M.Tech courses, NIT Srinagar also offers M.Sc. MBA and Ph.D. programmes. Candidates shortlisted through JEE Main and GATE exams need to appear for JoSAA and CCMT Counselling for B.Tech and M.Tech programmes, respectively.

Some external websites suggest, top recruiting companies that have visited the NIT Srinagar campus for placements include Amazon, Deloitte, Accenture, Chegg and Maruti Suzuki, among others. The median package for B.Tech and M.Tech courses stood at INR 8.33 LPA and INR 6 LPA, respectively.
