Candidates seeking admission to M.Tech at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur must have passed a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year course) or must have completed their master's degree in Science with marks not below the specified minimum. A relaxation of 5% aggregate or 0.5 CPI is offered to SC/ST/PwD category candidates on the minimum eligibility score. Additionally, a valid GATE score is required for admission to the M.Tech programme in the case of regular (non-sponsored) candidates. The requirement of GATE score is waived for the candidates with a BTech/BS (4-year) degree from IITs with a minimum overall CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the last two years in BTech/BS (4-year).

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority conducts JoSAA Counselling for candidates seeking admission to BTech courses. Candidates who qualify JEE Advanced 2023 are called for the JoSAA Counselling 2023.
