Candidates who belong to the General category must be born before on or after Oct 1, 1997. There is a relaxation of five years for candidates who belong to the reserved categories (SC/ ST/ PwD category candidates), i.e, they must be born on or after Oct 1, 1992).

According to reports released by media, a total of 989 offers were made during IIT Kanpur placements season for 2023-24 (Phase-one) and IIT Kanpur BSc average package offered to the placed graduates during the phase one of the placement season of 2023-24 stood at INR 26.27 LPA. IIT Kanpur BSc seat reservation is prescribed by the Board of Governors subject to the policy formulated from time to time by the Government of India. The seats are reserved for the SC, ST, OBC (Not belonging to Creamy Layer) and PwD (Person with Disability) category candidates.
