For the majority of undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Malaya (UM), a score of 5.5 on the IELTS may not be sufficient to achieve the minimal English language proficiency criterion for admission. Depending on the degree, colleges such as UM usually demand an IELTS score of 6.0 or 6.5 for undergraduate programs and 6.5 or higher for postgraduate programs. A score of 5.5 can be regarded as below the minimum required for academic programs, and candidates with this score might need to take more English proficiency tests or show growth through additional language instruction.
