For admission to MSc programme at NIT Meghalaya candidate must complete the institution's entrance standards, which include achieving a valid score in the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Admission Test for MSc followed by CCMN Counselling.  Also candidates have to fulfill the eligibility criteria i.e. Bachelor's degree with 60% aggregate.  NIT Meghalaya conducts its own admission process for the left over seats from the CCMN counselling process.

Direct admission is not offered for MSc at NIT Meghalaya. Admission to MSc is based on the JAM scores followed by CCMN counselling. However, the institute conducts entrance exam to fill the vacant seats after CCMN counselling. NIT Meghalaya application process for MSc is completely online and is done via the IIT JAM exam followed by the CCMN Counselling. Candidates must visit the official website of the IIT JAM's official website and register and fill out the application form. NIT Meghalaya is among the newly established NITs in the northeast region. It managed to secure 72nd under engineering category. As for its placement,   NIT Meghalaya concluded the 2023 placement session with199 job offers. The total seat intake of the MSc at NIT Meghalaya is 60. The seats are distributed among the three specialisations in 20. As per the seat allocation guidelines, candidates must participate in the CCMN counselling for MSc seat allocation. However, if candidates fail to secure seats via the counselling they can opt for the institute mode, which required students to apply vis the NIT Meghalaya’s official website.

The CCMN Counselling 2023 for the three specialisations was concluded after Round 5. The CCMN Last Round (Closing Rank) in Physics stood at 2417, in Mathematics it was 2462, and finally in Chemistry it was 2150.

The CCMN Counselling 2023 for the three specialisations was concluded after Round 5. The CCMN R1 (Closing Rank) in Physics stood at 1746, in Mathematics it was 1475, and finally in Chemistry it was 1539 for 2023. The highest rank was in Physics, which indicates a very tough competition for the particular specialisations compare to other.
