Thapar University is better in terms of placements, infrastructure, college life, internships, industry visits, company collaboration, platforms, unions, faculty, food, hostel, etc.

It is approximately 7-8 lakhs for 4 years.

If you're from general category then no you don't stand a chance but don't get disheartened give entrance exams for various top private college and try to give your best shot.

You can expect a seat in Thapar University. It will be bit difficult as 79.2 percentile might be on lower side considering a fight for CSE branch. They both are the same course. Thapar Institute in patiala calls it Computer Engineering while the Derabassi campus calls it Computer Science and Engineering.
