NIT Sikkim admission process is entirely entrance-based. Students are required to qualify for national-level entrance exams, such as JEE Main, GATE, IIT JAM, etc., for the respective courses. No, as per the official website, a student cannot take direct admission to the courses offered at NIT Sikkim. Students have to clear their respective entrance exams for the courses they wish to get into. For admission to BTech and M.Tech programmes, students must have a valid score in JEE Main and GATE exams, respectively, and go through their counselling processes to secure a seat at the institute. For the MSc course admission, students need to clear IIT JAM and participate in the CCMN counselling. Similar to these UG and PG courses, admission is entrance and interview-based for PhD.

NIT Sikkim offers four programmes i.e., BTech, MTech, MSc and PhD at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Admission to all of the aforementioned courses is entrance-based. In order to secure their seat at the institute, students must fulfil the eligibility and selection criteria for the desired programme.
