Cosmetology and Dermatology are often confused with one another. Cosmetology is much in demand as compared to dermatology because more and more people nowadays are beauty conscious and spend lot of money on the same while there are lesser number of people who suffers from any disease relating to skin,hair, nail etc. Dermatologist mainly works in hospitals, clinics etc. while cosmetologist works in saloon spa, beauty parlor etc. I believe the basic difference is that dermatologist is a health expert and comes into picture when you suffer from any illness and a cosmetologist is a beauty professional which has nothing to do with illness. Very few institute's offer course in cosmetic technology. A course cosmetic technology is offered at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Lady Amritbai Daga College for Women. Kakatiya University School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education, Warangal offers certificate course in cosmetic science. Mumbai University offers -Diploma in Cosmetics and Perfumary Technology.
You will need to check for the eligibility from the college admin office.If you wish you could go in for a course in cosmetology from - VLCC Institute, Pune (www.vlcc.co.in). Dr Nishita Sheth's Cosmetology Clinic (DNCC)-promoted International Dermesthetic Academy (DNCC-IDA) offers courses in cosmetology. Other institutes offering the course are Kosmoderma Academy, International Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, Bangalore, (iaam.info/about.html). Even MET-Richfeel Institute of Trichology, Mumbai Educational Trust, Bandra West, Mumbai (http://www.met.edu).
