Hello,
After getting Diploma, if you cannot do BE/B.Tech regularly, then there is an option AMIE (distance education), it is degree course. The syllabus of AMIE is similar to B.E/B.Tech. The AMIE syllabus has two parts: - Section A and Section B (similar to First year, Second year etc. Of any formal degree course). Those who join for AMIE should first study and clear all subjects in Section A. Based on one's qualification, the total number of subjects in Section A varies. Both are same. There is no difference in course and programme. This both defines the degree and time duration of any particular course. Don't get confused.

Yes, Masters courses consist of thesis or project. It is not easy as undergraduates but yes they will guide you how to do this but that's project in master will mostly applications based. So don't worry once you enter in good college everything will get set up automatically.
Good luck.

According to me, if you score 60% marks in PCM, then better give Maritime exam. If you get selected, then do your marine engineering after class 12th, or else if you are not selected, there are so many good institute who will provide you marine engineering. I think, you better join Marine College after class 12th only, because you will get much more benefited and you will save your time in doing B.Tech, then you can go for post-graduation.
