With experiences of interviews at various PSUs, and IITs, I have came across a lot of people, who tried hard, time and again, to finally seize what they wanted out of GATE. The matter of the fact is, You must justify your stand of taking a 1-year gap. It is because, once you get through with the written exam with great ranks, what awaits you next is something, where you as a person, are judged. Once you give grounds for what you wanted, you can rise better. So, All the best !
