The Dental Council of India, the Malaysian Dental Council, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and the Government of India all recognise DY Patil Dental College, which was founded in 2000. Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge, Periodontology, Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine and Radiology, and many more dental specialties are among those in which the College offers highly competent training. There are fourteen courses available in one stream. There are 160 seats available in total, with 100 designated for BDS. The entire cost of tuition is approximately INR 25L, while the typical placement compensation package is INR 6.2L year.

Admission to the BDS programme will be based on the candidates' performance in the National Eligibility/Entrance Test of 2023, which will determine the merit list. Direct admission is available at Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College for management quota seats. There may be differences in the admissions process and cost schedule as a result. The applicant needs to have passed the qualifying test, which consists of the English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology) sections of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC/12 Standard) or an equivalent exam. 

For the undergraduate BDS programme, Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College & Hospital trains 100 students annually. The duration of BDS programme is 5 years. Central counselling will be handled by DGHS New Delhi, and admissions to the BDS programme will be based on the merit list determined by the candidates' performance in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test 2023 administered by National Testing Agency (NTA), Delhi. An eligibility-cum-ranking test called (MCC) NEET-UG is required as a single entrance exam for different BDS programmes. No other entrance exam, whether state- or institution-level, will be accepted for admission to the BDS programme.

As one of the few dental schools that gives its students the most options, Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College provides highly proficient instruction in a variety of dentistry disciplines. 49 students are trained in nine specialisations each year under MDS courses. Approximately 100 students are trained there annually for the undergraduate BDS programme. Additionally, the college offers Dental Mechanics, a two-year Diploma programme that is accredited by Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College and recognised by the Dental Council of India. Additionally, PhD programmes are offered. There are also numerous other fellowship programmes offered, such as fellowships in contemporary endodontics and implant dentistry.

About 49 students a year are trained in the nine dental specialties of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge, Periodontology, Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Oral Pathology & Microbiology, and Public Health Dentistry at Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College & Hospital. The college offers two to eight seats for each of its specialties. The placement rate at the DY Patil Dental College Pune MDS placements in 2022 was 100%, according to the NIRF report 2023 from the college. Additionally, the placement rate for MDS at DY Patil Dental College Pune during the previous three years has stayed at 100%.
