If you're an art director and you create/lead a project that's designed appropriately, you've done your job. It doesn't matter whether that appropriately designed project achieves any of your customer's (or boss's) goals, because that's not in your job description. However, if you're a creative director and you create/lead a project that's designed appropriately but doesn't meet your customer's or boss's goals, you haven't fulfilled all of the duties of your job. Executing on strategy is a major part of creative direction, and it's the creative director's job to marry suit
