Both are one and the same. Some call it Distance while others call it external MBA. The best part here is that one can continue working & simultaneously learn as well. One needs to do self-study (some institutes, also have the option of some online sessions or some weeks of in-campus learning) & appear for exams.

Basic eligibility criteria for the 2 year MBA programme is that the candidates should be graduates in any discipline. For opting for the Distance MBA programme, the candidates need to have minimum 3 years work experience. The exact eligibility criteria might vary from institute to institute, but the generic criteria would be the same. Most of the institutes conduct their own entrance exams. Symbiosis Center for Distance Learning accepts the scores of the top MBA entrance exams like CAT, XAT, MAT, ATMA.

Yes, but make sure that the programme is a one that is recognized by UGC. For example, you may opt for doing Ph.D. having MBA from IGNOU. There are certain distance education programs that are not recognized by UGC. And, also certain short term PGDM (1year duration) courses as well.

ICFAI University. Sikkim Manipal University. Annamalai University. Ranked 2nd among the top B-Schools offering distance education in India by Zee Business. Prin. Amity University. Lovely Professional University. The distance PGDM at NMIMS is definitely worth it, and will give your career the necessary boost. Narsee MonjeeInstitute of Management Studies has a very good name in India for the Regular Mode MBA program. That is why MBA is designed to be a heavily practical oriented course.
