UPES, Amity and ICFAI are some top private colleges that will give you admission in MBA through correspondence. IGNOU is a good government college, but requires the student to pass OpenMAT.

If you are in the technical field, operations will be the best option for you. It all depends on 2 things:
1. Interest: If you are not interested in your current job or do not like it then to change your career path, you can choose marketing, finance, HR, etc.
2. To improve your career prospects: If you want to improve your career prospects then it's better to do that course which will be of some help in your work. From that point of view, operations would be good for you.

You can certainly pursue MBA through distance or correspondence. You can choose any branch according to your needs as there are plenty out there like Logistics, Finance, Oil and Gas etc. If you are looking for Shore job in the Merchant navy itself then Logistics and other related course will help.
