He should focus on basics and practice more and more.
Before clearing an entrance exam all the branches have same criteria.
It may vary college to college due to their facility and infrastructure.
If he wants to join ece just tell him to focus on practice and fallow what teacher is saying in his classes.
That will be sufficient no need to worry.
In case if will not get ece he can change his branch to ece after end of first semester.
Because first year in engineering have common subjects.
Here is a link of exams. I hope it will help you.
Thank you.

Think, don't go with which stream is better. Go with what you want do after studying B.Tech. You may take following considerations. If you like computer, want to build crazy application or something related to software go with Computer Science engineering. If you like playing with machines/motors or electricity go ahead with Mechanical engineering. Or Electrical engineering. If you are India, after studying Electronics and communication engineering most of the students gets job/work in IT companies. Only few percent gets chance in electronics companies. B.Tech (EE) placements are above average and for ingenuity, we have a separate placement cell in which proper monitoring on every student. If we talk about the students who lost their jobs after an interval, it depends on their skill and learning growth, if you have different ideas and thoughts for the growth of the company then you can survive in the market, otherwise, with the same skill and no add-on in learning capacity, you will stick to the point which will not give you the growth and may get you terminated from the company.

In case, you don't get your desired college, don't settle for something mediocre. Instead of settling down for some mediocre college, it would be better, if you try for some good private university. Many reputed private universities are offering B.Tech in different branches. They have different criteria for admissions. Some offer admission on the basis of JEE scores, some offer admission on basis of their own tests and some offer admission on the basis

Dear Dhanarajasekar, there is nothing called easy placement. You need to work hard for it. Placements are good in CSE, but there too, if you don't work hard then placement gets difficult. There are many good universities, like LPU where placement of students is foremost. For this reason, they have included special inputs in the curriculum of the students to prepare them for the placements. Students are prepared for the placements in an effective manner. Check with the University for More Details. Good luck.
