Former is three years while later is four years course. After Diploma, students can seek admission directly into the second year of a 4-year degree course. This effectively means that the time taken to get a degree is the same by both means for a student. However, by doing a Diploma, students earn a skilling Certificate based on which they can get jobs. Practically it makes no difference. However, in practice, there are not many seats in the second year of a 4-year degree course to accept Diploma holders and hence competition is quite tough.
