Electronics Engineering

As per the curriculum of ECE, there will be subjects on electronics and communication like analog electronics, digital electronics, microprocessor, microcontroller, embedded system, network theory, Signals and systems, DSP, analog & digital communication, satellite communication etc. In EEE electrical core subjects like power system, transmission & distribution, electrical machine, etc., and some basic subjects of electronics. In electronics and instrumentation engineering. With the subjects of core electronics (mentioned above) and instrumentation subjects like transducer, electronics instruments and measurements, control system, etc.

I am neither a career advisor nor an educationist. I am an ECE graduate currently working as an IT/Software professional. Also, the answer caters specifically to the Indian engineering diaspora. So take my answer with a pinch of salt.
Short answer-
If you strictly have to choose between these two branches in the Indian academic system, go for IT if you want to be closer to a CSE program. The IT program though contains courses encompassing the management and commercial aspects of the industry, you'll still get the minimum or even more coursework required for a career as a software developer or computer scientist in the future.
ECE is what you get in a traditional EE program at the IITs curricula-wise, minus some advanced courses and those pertaining to heavy/power/systems/high-voltage engineering.
There is no question of better - both will teach you analytical skills - though IT will give you an edge in terms of campus placements in a tier-2/3 engineering college in India (ignore this aspect for a premier educational institution like the IITs). But again if you can write code or learn to write code while not being a CS/IT major, you won't end up broke when the dust settles.

Mechatronics is an upcoming branch of advanced engineering carrying a huge bunch of potential in it when we talk of job security and opportunities in the coming times. Answering your question, the branch shows more inclination towards mechanical engineering by an approximate rate of 10% because mechanical itself involves imparting you the knowledge of machine building, machine operations etc. Electronics acts as an additional flavour to it. Yet, if your question is considered at academics and theoretical level (exam+books) you will have to study both on equal terms and pass your exams but when you talk of practical implementation and industry level scope, yes you may neglect electronics part a bit and yet you hold a scope to avail a relevant job.

Akshat don't go with which stream is better. Go with what you want do after studying B.Tech. You may take following considerations. If you like computer, want to build crazy application or something related to software go with Computer Science engineering. If you like playing with machines/motors or electricity go ahead with Mechanical engineering. Or Electrical engineering. If you are India, after studying Electronics and communication engineering most of the students gets job/work in IT companies. Only few percent gets chance in electronics companies. So I would suggest, better to study Computer Science engineering. If you want to sail through vast sea go with Marine engineering. If you have not decided what you want to do after B.Tech, sit for one or two days and decided what you want to do. If still confused, select any of the engineering mentioned in point # 1, 2 and 3 (Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronics). Best of luck.
