National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Gorakhpur admission process begins with registration. The institute releases the application form online for all programmes. Admission to O and A Level courses is based on NIELIT Entrance Exam scores. GATE is considered for admission to M.Tech programme of NIELIT. For certificate and Diploma programmes, the selection is based on merit of the aspirants in the last qualifying exam.

Candidates only require GATE if they are applying for National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Gorakhpur M.Tech programme. However, aspirants can apply for M.Tech even without GATE by providing institute or university level exam scores. The instiute conducts NIELIT Entrance Exam for O and A Level courses. For all other programmes, selection is merit-based.

National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Gorakhpur does offer direct admission. Aspirants need to meet the course-specific requirements for direct admission. Candidates who have qualified GATE are eligible for direct admission in M.Tech course. Aspirants who have passed Class 12/ any Diploma of a minimum of one year after Class 10/ ITI certificate after Class 10 followed in each case by one year relevant experience are eligible to direct admission in O Level course. Its curriculum is focused to interconnects technology with electronics and the programme is designed such that it produces students capable of taking up employment opportunities in the technological sectors. An ITI passed candidate can be eligible for admission if he/she has passed ITI with Electrical or Electrical & Electronics trade. He can produce ITI certificate and take admission in the undergraduate course of Electrical Engineering.A student studying in the ITI is a 10th passed candidate. Therefore, he must have completed Class 10th from a valid board and finished his ITI in the field of electrical engineering from a recognised ITI. Candidate who wish to further specialise in the field of Electrical Engineering must pursue this course.
