You have to pursue a 4-year BE/B.Tech Marine engineering course on the completion of which you qualify to become a fifth engineering onboard a merchant ship. You can also become a fifth engineer after completing a one-year graduate mechanical engineering course prior to which you should have completed BE/B.Tech in mechanical engineering. If the opportunities being talked about are to be limited to main central or state government departments, opportunities may not be many. Very few departments like National Informatics Center have some that too limited opportunities. Some of the departments may recruit a few engineering graduates but only for a support role. Hello Deepak,
Mainly 2 more years you can take the exams of engineering after your class 12th. This means that you have 3 chance for your engineering entrance exams but in medical, you can take the entrance exam till the age of 25.

A scientist is a person who has scientific training or who works in the sciences. An engineer is someone who is trained as an engineer. So, to my way of thinking, the practical difference lies in the educational degree and the description of the task being performed by the scientist or engineer.
